Soft Machine

Soft Machine was an English rock band formed in 1966, in Canterbury, Kent. The band originally consisted of Mike Ratledge on keyboards, Robert Wyatt on drums, Kevin Ayers on bass, and Daevid Allen on guitar. The group is widely seen as a progenitor of the Canterbury scene, a genre of progressive rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Soft Machine's debut album, The Soft Machine, was released in 1968 and was followed by their second album, Volume Two, which was released in 1969. This album featured the single, "Love Makes Sweet Music," which reached #37 on the UK Singles Chart. Their third album, Third, was released in 1970 and featured the single, "Facelift," which reached #45 on the UK Singles Chart.

Soft Machine's fourth album, Fourth, was released in 1971 and featured the single, "Hazard Profile Part One," which reached #50 on the UK Singles Chart. This album also featured the classic track, "Virtually," which has been cited as an influence on a number of contemporary electronic music acts.

Soft Machine's fifth album, Fifth, was released in 1972 and featured the single, "All White," which reached #41 on the UK Singles Chart. This album also featured the classic track, "Kings and Queens," which has been cited as an influence on a number of contemporary electronic music acts.

Soft Machine's sixth album, Six, was released in 1973 and featured the single, "Hibou, Anemone and Bear," which reached #48 on the UK Singles Chart. This album also featured the classic track, "Moon in June," which has been cited as an influence on a number of contemporary electronic music acts.

Soft Machine's seventh album, Seven, was released in 1974 and featured the single, "Signed Curtain," which reached #62 on the UK Singles Chart.

An interesting fact about Soft Machine is that the band has had a number of different line-up changes over the years, but the core members of the band have remained the same since the beginning. In addition, the band has gone through a number of different musical phases, from jazz-rock fusion to progressive rock to electronic music.
