Modest Mouse is an American indie rock band formed in 1993 in Issaquah, Washington and currently based in Portland, Oregon. The band's core consists of founding members Isaac Brock (vocals, guitar, banjo), Eric Judy (bass) and Jeremiah Green (drums). Their breakthrough album was 2004's Good News for People Who Love Bad News, which spawned their most successful single, "Float On". It was followed by the Grammy-nominated We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank in 2007. The band's most recent album, Strangers to Ourselves, was released in 2015. Notable albums include The Lonesome Crowded West (1997), The Moon & Antarctica (2000) and We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank (2007). Some of the band's most popular songs include "Float On", "Ocean Breathes Salty", "The World at Large", "Gravity Rides Everything", "Dashboard" and "Lampshades on Fire". An interesting fact about Modest Mouse is that the band's name was taken from a line in the Virginia Woolf story "The Mark on the Wall", which reads, "I wish I could hit upon a pleasant track of thought, a track indirectly reflecting credit upon myself, for those are the pleasantest thoughts, and very frequent even in the minds of modest, mouse-coloured people, who believe genuinely that they dislike to hear their own praises."
