Horrorcore

Horrorcore is a genre of hip-hop music that is characterized by dark, often violent and often morbid lyrics, as well as horror-themed samples and sound effects. The style was pioneered in the late 1980s by underground rappers in the Midwest, such as Esham, Brotha Lynch Hung, and Gravediggaz. The genre has been described as "the darkest and most extreme form of hip-hop" and "a mix of hardcore rap, dark poetry, and horror film soundtracks". Horrorcore has seen a resurgence in recent years with the rise of the horror-inspired "emo rap" subgenre, which has incorporated elements of horrorcore into its sound.
