Gene Krupa, Lionel Hampton and Teddy Wilson had all helped define the Goodman era, and here their seasoned interplay gives standards such as ‘Avalon’, ‘Just You, Just Me’ and ‘I Got Rhythm’ renewed bite. Issued in 1971, this compilation draws on small-group sessions that balance muscular swing with the quicksilver phrasing and rhythmic fire associated with modern jazz. Krupa’s forceful soloing and propulsive timekeeping made him a bridge between big-band spectacle and post-war bop, and these performances underline his influence on generations of drummers. Heard in context, the set reinforces his reputation not just as a bandleader, but as a vital, pioneering instrumental voice.

Artist: Gene Krupa

Label: World Record Club – R-02405

Format: LP, Compilation, Club Edition, Stereo

Units: 1

Country: Australia

Released: 1976

Genre:
          Jazz

Style:

            Bop

A1 Midget
A2 Coronation Hop
A3 Payin' Them Dues Blues
A4 Capital Idea
A5 Swedish Schnapps
A6 Gene'S Solo Flight
B1 Showcase
B2 Overtime
B3 Bloozy Woozy
B4 Meddle My Minor
B5 Drum Boogie
B6 Jumpin' At The Woodside
