Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh – Lee Konitz With Warne Marsh (Mono, Speakers Corner)

In the Atlantic Studio in June 1955, standards were the starting point for the long, mature improvisation chains of Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh, at that time still students of the great guru from Chicago. Even though the titles are designated as original compositions, such as "Background Music" or "Ronnie's Line", they are nothing but arrangements of "All Of Me" or "That Old Feeling" - but on the highest level. Lee Konitz always calls this 'The 12th step'. The repertoire is further enriched by rarely heard original compositions by the great Oscar Pettiford.

Time-keeping' - an almost untranslatable word creation of jazz musicians - is the most important element between "Donna Lee" and "There Will Never Be Another You" - and there is probably no more suitable drummer for this than Kenny 'Klook' Clarke, who lived in the USA at that time, before the Paris of the 50-70s became his adopted country without racial discrimination.

By the way: One of the musicians is still on the road. You can often hear and see Lee Konitz somewhere in Europe with anyone. Even when he was almost 91 years old.
