  • Leon Bridges is a seeker. Since his debut about six years ago, the U.S. singer and musician has embarked on several searches for his musical identity and found several answers along the way. "Gold-Diggers Sound" is the latest

Bridges' story sounds a bit like something out of a movie. At first, he made his living as a dishwasher and tried to gain some notoriety by performing at open-mic nights in his hometown of Fort Worth. At least he met the right people there, who recorded his first solo album with him: the heavily 1950s and 60s soul and gospel-inspired "Coming Home", which reached the Top 10 in both the UK and the US. He continued to write his success story in 2018 with the follow-up "Good Thing", but with new musical tendencies. Moving from soul to R'n'B, the deliberately raw sound of the debut gave way to modern production. Nevertheless, the retro vibe of his music was not lost. Not even when he recorded his collabo EP "Texas Sun" with the psychedelic funk instrumental band Khruangbin in 2020, which combines the styles of both artists.

Two Grammy nominations and an appearance in front of former US President Obama later, Leon Bridges continues his journey, or rather his quest, once again in 2021 with "Gold Diggers Sound". The eleven new songs are the result of long nights in the eponymous studio in Los Angeles, California. The album celebrates Leon's immersive experience creating music in the same East Hollywood space where he lived and worked for two years. The collaboration between Leon as an artist and the space itself was so inspiring that he decided to name the album after the studio complex.

How "Gold-Diggers Sound" sounds, he already revealed with the first single "Motorbike", a romantic but not at all kitschy R'n'B pop anthem, the perfect soundtrack for relaxing summer evenings.

There are also a few top-class guests on the record: Among others, the US hip-hop jazz pianist Robert Glasper and the US rapper, musician and singer Martin Terrace can be heard in one song each
