AMHA ESHETE (AMHA RECORDS) released some 50 vinyl singles in Ethiopia from 1969 to 1972 with true treasures of the local jazz, folk and Afrosoul scene, before he started to collect the best of them on the five LP series "Ethiopian Hit Parade" in the same year - needless to say that these singles as well as the original LPs are both untraceable and priceless nowadays.The young music enthusiast, who founded his own label at the age of 24, broke the monopoly of British HIS MASTER'S VOICE pressings on 78 shellacs, which contained country-typical traditionals far away from the young music scene. He quickly became an ambassador for the young and modern Ethiopian groove scene, which was equally influenced by traditional musical elements as well as by the international spirit of jazz, soul, funk and rock, and the spirit of change of the late 60s Spirit of the late 60s.
