10,000 Maniacs Vinyl Records

10,000 Maniacs is an alternative rock band that formed in 1981 in Jamestown, New York. The original lineup was Natalie Merchant (lead vocals and keyboards), Robert Buck (guitar and mandolin), Dennis Drew (keyboards), Steven Gustafson (bass) and Jerome Augustyniak (drums).

The band's first album, Secrets of the I Ching, was released in 1983, and their second album, The Wishing Chair, was released in 1985. It was the band's first album to feature Merchant as the main songwriter and vocalist, and it was met with critical acclaim.

The band's breakthrough album was their third, In My Tribe, released in 1987. It featured the singles “Like the Weather”, “What’s the Matter Here?”, and “Trouble Me”, which were all successful on the Billboard charts.

The band's fourth album, Blind Man's Zoo, was released in 1989. It included the singles “Eat for Two”, “Poison in the Well”, and “Tension”.

10,000 Maniacs' fifth album, Our Time in Eden, was released in 1992. It featured the singles “These Are Days”, “Candy Everybody Wants”, and “Gold Rush Brides”.

The band's sixth and final album, Love Among the Ruins, was released in 1997. It featured the singles “More Than This” and “Rainy Day”.

The band has released several live albums, compilations, and box sets. They have also collaborated with other artists such as Michael Stipe, David Byrne, and Suzanne Vega.

An interesting fact about 10,000 Maniacs is that they were the first American alternative rock band to be signed to a major label.

class="product-about-heading">About this album

The Wishing Chair is an articulate early statement from 10,000 Maniacs, sharpening their folk-rock blend into something both melodic and pointed. Released in 1985, the album helped establish the band’s reputation for jangling guitars, thoughtful lyrics and Natalie Merchant’s distinctive vocal presence. It sits squarely in the American college-rock tradition, balancing political and personal concerns with a memorable, restless energy. Songs such as Can’t Ignore The Train and My Mother The War show a group already confident in its identity, making the album an important bridge between the band’s underground roots and broader recognition.

Artist: 10,000 Maniacs

Label: Elektra – 60428-1

Format: LP, Album

Units: 1

Country: Australia

Released: 1985

Genre:
          Pop & Rock

Style:

            Folk Rock

A1 Can'T Ignore The Train
A2 Just As The Tide Was A Flowing
A3 Scorpio Rising
A4 Lilydale
A5 Maddox Table
A6 Everyone A Puzzle Lover
A7 Arbor Day
B1 Back O' The Moon
B2 Tension Makes A Tangle
B3 Among The Americans
B4 Grey Victory
B5 Cotton Alley
B6 My Mother The War
